Other People’s Children

Other People’s Children (1969)

The other day a moist infestation
of other people’s children hanging
in their cloggy nests reminded me
of our own grub fed fledglings,
of their indifferent greed and how
I would often don iridescent robes
of purple age and wish them flown.

Other People’s Children (1987)

The other day I spied
a moist infestation
of other people’s children
hanging from their cloggy nests.
This reminded me of our own
grub fed fledglings and their
indifferent greed and how I
would often don iridescent robes
of purple age and wish them flown.
Now I wish them home — these others grown.
