For My Wife, My Life #2
The best thing about being married for fifty years
Is that being married for that long may well be for good.
Then years later in the heavens of our intentions
We might find ourselves still here, amongst ourselves
And others in words and deeds, lovingly.
Let us hope what we have said and done will not
Be held against us. Let me tell this to you now,
Not on tiptoes of the night but in broad
Daylight, rejoicing in the day, best Joan of all—
Lush heart, ripe as lips, fifty years together
And still voyaging, fewer misprints, easier going.
Let’s meet at the trailhead and wait to see.
